Handicraft enterprise In compliance with framework Law for handicrafts n. 443 of 8 August 1985 handicraft enterprises are directly run by the proprietor (a craftsman), their mission is to produce goods or supply services (excluding restaurants and bars) and they must not exceed the following size:- Enterprise with a not fully-automated production process: maximum 9 employees including apprentices (not more than 5). The maximum number of employees can be extended to 12 provided that the new employees are apprentices.- Enterprise operating in the sector of art products, traditional products and tailor-made wearing apparel: maximum 32 employees including apprentices (not more than 16). The maximum number of employees can be extended to 40 provided that the new employees are apprentices.- Transport enterprise: maximum 8 employees.- Construction enterprise: maximum 10 employees including apprentices (not more than 5). The maximum number of employees can be extended to 14 provided that the new employees are apprentices.
Hard discount Is a fixed retail outlet that has a medium-large sales area. By means of reduction in costs (personnel, facilities, etc.), it offers a wide range of products, normally "without brand" and for consumers' use, at prices that are much lower than the market average.
Harmonised index of consumer prices The HICPs are economic indicators constructed to measure the changes over time in the prices of consumer goods and services acquired by households. The HICPs give comparable measures of inflation in the euro-zone, the EU, the European Economic Area and for other countries including accession and candidate countries. They are calculated according to a harmonised approach and a single set of definitions. They provide the official measure of consumer price inflation in the euro-zone for the purposes of monetary policy in the euro area and assessing inflation convergence as required under the Maastricht criteria.
Harvested production Harvested production means production including on-holding losses and wastage, quantities consumed directly on the farm and marketed quantities, indicated in units of basic product weight.
Healthcare assistance Comprises all measures for prevention and treatment of citizens' diseases.
Herbaceous crops Cultivations of herbaceous plants, subject to crop rotation at least every five years.
Herbicides Herbicides are used to control undesirable or noxious plant growth, generally called weeds, in areas dedicated to crop production or in non-crop areas where plant growth is unwanted.
HICP Harmonised index of consumer prices
High Court (Tribunale) Is subdivided into civil and criminal sections.In civil law, it is a court of first degree and has jurisdiction in cases involving taxes, the state, the capacity of persons, ordinary adoptions, in some cases of electoral disputes as well as legal separations and dissolution of marriages. In the second degree it is a court of appeal against verdicts reached in the first degree by the Magistrate;In criminal law it is competent in the first degree for cases that are not the competence of the Magistrate, the Tribunale per i Minorenni (Juvenile Court) and the Corte d'Assise (Court of Assizes). The new Code has eliminated the Ufficio Istruzione (Office of preliminary investigation) at the Tribunale (High Court) and has created the Ufficio del Giudice per le Indagini Preliminari (Magistrate in Preliminary Hearing). In the provincial capitals also have been created the Tribunali della Libertà (High Courts of Freedom), which have jurisdiction in the re-examination of restrictive measures against persons' freedom and of seizures carried out by the judicial police.The Corte d'Assise (Court of Assizes) is a special section of the Tribunale (High Court) which is responsible for more serious crimes (massacre, terrorism, murder, spying, kidnapping).
High forest Forest area whose plants are high-forest trees which grow exclusively from seeds.
High voltage (high tension) Nominal tension exceeding 35 kV and lower than or equal to 220 kV.
Higher Judicial Council (Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura - CSM) Is established in compliance with art. 104 of the Italian Constitution and is responsible for the self-governing of the Judiciary. It undertakes all the procedures concerning recruitment, transfers, promotions of magistrates. It is chaired by the President of the Republic.
Holiday Period of at least four consecutive nights spent away from one's residence, in a place other than those normally frequented, normally with purposes of entertainment or rest.
Hospital Corresponds to any hospital, with all the wards, departments and services, independent or depending from a public, i.e. a Local Health Unit, or private body. Public hospitals include independent hospitals, hospital depending from a local health unit (ASL), the university polyclinics, the public and private health institutes of research, the classified or assimilated hospitals, the psychiatric institutes, the private qualified hospitals depending from a Lhu, and the research institutions. Hospital bed bed in hospitals, with medical staff, fitted for full time care of in-patients. Bed-places are in hospital wards or areas where medical care is continuously guaranteed.
Hotels and similar establishments Hotels and similar establishments are typified as being arranged in rooms, in number exceeding a specified minimum (seven); as coming under a common management; as providing certain services including room service, daily bed-making and cleaning of sanitary facilities; as grouped in classes and categories according to the facilities and services provided; and as not falling in the category of specialised establishments.
Household Household is defined in terms of shared residence and common arrangements, as comprising either one person living alone or a group of persons, not necessarily related, living at the same address with common house-keeping. Persons currently residing in the household, persons temporarily institutionalised (health home, full-time education, military service) or absent for work or travel are included.
Household consumption Comprises all goods and services purchased by households. Also included are goods originated from households' own vegetable gardens, goods and services supplied by employers to employees, estimated rents of houses of property or used for the provision of services
Household, de facto A group of persons living together, tied by marriage, relationship, kinship, adoption, trusteeship or affective reasons, resident in the same commune. Included in the household, as aggregate members, all persons who, under any circumstances, live in co-habitation with the given household (e.g. domestic staff).
Household, in terms of Census A group of persons living together in the same housing unit, tied by marriage, relationship, kinship, adoption, trusteeship or affective reasons. A household may be composed of only one member.Domestic staff living in the same housing unit is intended as an independent household, provided that there are no ties such as the above-mentioned ones.
Household, in terms of registry office A group of persons living together, tied by marriage, relationship, kinship, adoption, trusteeship or affective reasons, resident in the same commune. A household may be composed of only one member.
Housewife Person whose principal activity is the care of the family and of the home.
Housing unit A room or suite of rooms and its accessories in a permanent building or structurally separated part thereof which by the way it has been built, rebuilt, converted, etc., is intended for private habitation. It should have a separate access to a street (direct or via a garden or grounds) or to a common space within the building (staircase, passage, gallery, etc.). Detached rooms for habitation which are clearly built, rebuilt, converted, etc., to be used as part of a dwelling should be counted as part of the dwelling
Hunters Persons legally authorised to carry out hunting activity during the hunting season.
Hypermarket Is a fixed retail outlet with a sales area in excess of 2 500 m2, subdivided into food and non-food departments. The formers have the same characteristics as a supermarket, while the latter are similar to those in a department store.
